Democratic National Convention 2016

Welcome to Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love and the site of the Democratic National Convention. DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz is not “feeling the love” this morning. She resigned Sunday night under fire after WikiLeaks published 19,000 internal DNC emails. It’s still early here on ABC’s radio row but sparks are sure to fly later in the day when the most damaging email content rises to the surface.

Things started early for radio broadcasters here in Philly. Wake-up call was 4 a.m. and then began the sojourn into the city and then into the “city within the city” otherwise known as the security perimeter. We loaded up tripods, video cameras, laptops, still cameras, mixers, cords, wires, tape, and cases and began the trek from the parking lot through security area after security area. The maze took us from the Lincoln Financial Field, the Philadelphia Eagles Stadium, right past Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, and then finally into the Wells Fargo Center. The journey was long, especially with all the gear. Set-up was the next task at hand. Lots of equipment, not lots of space. Our station is right next to Sherry Preston of ABC News.

There will be lots more to come as Wells Fargo Center fills with party delegates and DNC officials. So far, it’s “just us” media types preparing to tell the story of Decision 2016.
